Checkgmail kicks Gmail Manager on any Linux system for me sorry Edy ;) No need to have FF open as it runs in the tray and allows you to archive etc without even opening a browser ;)
I don't feel like installing a hundred Ruby dependencies, just to check a few email accounts, in which any case I'll need FF open....which it always is on any machine of mine.
Yup, right now I have gmail and google reader notifiers. And firebug is standard for me too.
Foxytunes doesn't seem to work for me right now unfortunately. And SimpleMail just brought my whole system to a crawl (sigh, I miss the mail client in Opera ;)
@edy - Gmail Manager is good I used to use it myself but I love having my emails checked and managed all the time as I don't always have FF open. Checkgmail is written in Perl not Ruby so you shouldn't need Ruby extensions, the package on Getdeb.net has everything you need in it. It's a personal choice, they both work :)
@dantheman: you can archive without opening the browser? Is that a new/recent feature? I should check it out again then. But then, my FF is usually open anyway. Also, I like shiny notifiers in my FF status bar. xD
a small note: some do need Nightly Tester Tools to make them work on recent browsers, and some (not mention here) aint eve available online anymore....
Yeah you can mark as spam, archive, whatever without opening a browser and it's not new, I've been using it for that reason for about 18 months, I have it set to launch on Gnome login and use SSL. Nice little tool
@ramkumar - It depends which version you installed their were different ones around in the repos like Kcheckgmail which didn't have those capabilities, easy to get confused. I tried Kcheckgmail and it was crap.

P.S - I should have said, it's not an FF extension though sorry. NoScript is one of my favourite FF extensions for security and ad blocking
